History of Nebrascka Siberian’s

Nebrascka Siberian Huskies started in 1990 with the purchase of some local bred Siberians. We utilized the subsequent few years to educated ourselves in all aspects concerning the Siberian Husky breed. In addition, our 5 acre property slowly was converted to house our dogs with the comfort and style that we want them to live in. This meant to set up large Siberian proof area’s, in close proximity to our house, so we can keep a close eye on them.
Our first breakthrough in the show ring was Multi RBIS, BISS, BPIS CH (SA,BR, BR GR, PAN, INTL) Nebrascka Emporer OvthSun, “Blaze” who is to-date the most titled Siberian Husky in South African breed history. Blaze had spend a successful 16 months in Brazil with Tunghat’s Siberian, on his return to South Africa he went RBIS at the “Best of the Best” in 2004. Soon thereafter Blaze retired from the show ring. Since than quite a couple of our bred dogs have achieved their championship title, living with us or with others.
With our first import from the USA was CH (USA/SA) Syntari’s No Cash Vale at Nebrascka “Keeper” we established the lines that we are working with today. Keeper did not only celebrate some wonderful success in the show ring but also produced some exceptional females, that form the basis of our kennel. BISS CH Nebrascka Samba Ba Ti “Tia” and RBISS CH Nebrascka Go For Gold “JLo” being the most successful of Keeper’s daughters.
Our breeding philosophy is not to breed quantity but quality. We breed seldom and generally breed for ourselves and only on few exception do we sell to other show homes.
We strive to do our very best to produce healthy and happy Siberians that conform as close as possible to the breed standard.
Our most recent import from the USA is BISS BJIS BJISS Trillium Blue’s Manta Ray at Nebrascka “Ray” is our pride and joy. In June 2009 he was ranked #2 Siberian Husky in South Africa. Ray has not only proven himself in the show ring but also in the whelping box. Ray’s daughter Nebrascka Papa Rays Sheri is a BOB and group placement winner from the minor puppy class. Ray is currently only 2 years old and we are quite certain that he will be a great asset to us, not only in the show ring but also in the whelping box.

The strength and foundation of our kennel lay’s with our bred females and Ray, who will take us into the future.

Our inspiration about the Siberian Husky
We do not have a specific kennel that we aspire too, but rather to our ideal Siberian, which is described below.

Our ideal Siberian Husky
When one looks at the Siberian Husky breed standard the word moderate occurs many times and therefore we prefer our dogs to be moderate in all aspects. Our ideal Siberian Husky should be moderate in size with a pleasing head and a nice coat. The dog must have a nice side gate with a clean “coming” and “going”. We prefer a good length of body without being too long or too short. Overall, the dog MUST be balanced. Meaning the length of body must be in proportion to length of leg. The temperament is extremely important in the Siberian Husky breed, and we prefer a Siberian that is rather on the bouncy side with a keen and eager expression. The coat must be nice and full but must not deter the outline of the body.

The dog we are proudest off
We are proud of all our dogs but the one that is foremost in our mind, must be:
Multi RBIS, BISS, BPIS CH (SA,BR, BR GR, PAN, INTL) Nebrascka Emporer OvthSun, “Blaze”. He not only celebrated great results in the show ring but also has produced many championed offspring’s. He has a wonderful temperament and raised many of our youngsters.
Although Blaze had put our kennel on the map and we are very proud of his achievements, we foresee great achievements for BISS BJIS BJISS Trillium Blue’s Manta Ray at Nebrascka “Ray”.

Development of the Siberian Husky in South Africa
The current trend seems to be to produce pretty, fluffy Siberian Huskies and forsake good structure. A high percentage of current Siberians in the show ring have bad front angulation, which is of major concern and breeders should put more focus on improving this. Although the Siberian Husky in general does not seem to have a high percentage of Hip dysplasia, however if we the custodian of the breed continue to not have our breeding stock hips graded we could potentially be in serious trouble in years to come.

The following aspect of a Siberian Husky are, (listed from most important to least important)

Temperament 10
Head and neck 9
Gait 8
Front angulation 7
Topline /Back 6
Rear angultion,stifles 5
Chest and Ribs 4
